Focus on ...PrematurityCentral Ohio's rate of premature births is among the highest in the state, according to Nationwide Children's Hospital. Premature birth refers to the birth of a baby before its organs mature enough to allow normal postnatal survival, and growth and development as a child. Premature infants are at greater risk for short and long term complications, including disabilities and imediments in growth and mental development. Columbus and Central Ohio has several initiatives focusing on reducing the the frequency of premature births and the bad health effects on the infant born prematurely. HealthyBuckeye.org has some resources to help you, and your baby, meet your goal of better health! MedLinePlus has important information about premature babies.
